Human Resources professionals play an increasingly vital role in most business enterprises, acting as a bridge between top management and employees. Human Resources professionals can help the organizations they work for in many ways – by recruiting qualified employees and matching them to positions that best utilize their skills; by administering payroll, benefits, and employee review processes; by implementing employee training and development programs; by addressing employee concerns and grievances.

Human Resources Career Opportunities

Several career opportunities exist for persons with human resources training. For example:

  • Employment Recruiters screen and interview applicants to fulfill an organization’s staffing needs. They may also supervise the hiring and separation of employees.
  • Payroll and Benefits Managers administer an organization’s payroll, and manage employee benefits such as health insurance and pensions.
  • Training and Development Managers provide training for new employees and supervise programs designed to enhance employees’ skills.
  • Other potential entry-level job titles include director of human resources, employee relations representative, compensation manager/specialist, and training specialist.

Our Program

Herzing University’s Bachelor of Science degree in Human Resources Management is designed to provide an understanding of the role of human resources management and its relationship to employee productivity while building a solid base of general business knowledge.

The curriculum includes coursework in compensation/benefits and training/development, as well as:

  • Human Resource Information Systems – Students work with various software options available for managing human resources.
  • Employment Law and Labor Relations – Students learn federal and state labor laws as they apply to the human resource function.
  • Risk Management – The role and function of risk management is addressed from a human resources perspective.
  • Strategic Staffing – The course focuses on developing a structure for providing businesses with human resources necessary to achieve organizational goals.

After Graduation

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in the human resources sector is projected to grow by 17 percent between 2006 and 2016, faster than the average for all occupations. Legislation and court rulings setting standards in various areas – occupational safety and health, health care, pensions, etc. – will increase demand for human resources experts.
