This program introduces the student to the overall operation of a physician's office.
Students are trained in the following objectives:
Working as a team with physician in the examination room. Tasks learned include: infection control, sanitization, disinfection and sterilization, identification of surgical instruments, surgical scrub, sterile gloving, catheterization, sterile tray set up and assisting with minor surgical procedures, dressings and bandaging, drug administration including oral and parenteral methods, immunizations, practice of vital signs, and more.
Learn diagnostic procedures routinely performed in the physician's office laboratory setting. Students will learn how to perform electrocardiography on patients, specimen collection, routine urinalysis, and body fluid analysis.
Handle financial records, correspondence, insurance forms and other administrative functions. Students will have knowledge of important legal and ethical guidelines and will become familiar with health information systems including interpersonal communication and customer service techniques, appointment scheduling, medical recordkeeping, and accepting and entering payments.
Our ultimate goal is to prepare students to successfully gain entry-level employment as a Medical Assistant.
