Entrepreneurial Studies

The Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurial studies degree is designed to provide an understanding of the roles and responsibilities, functions, and challenges of today's entrepreneurs. BSES students will take classes to increase their knowledge and understanding of the importance of entrepreneurial law, social responsibility, product development, and innovations.

The goal of the program is to provide students with the basic knowledge and skills necessary to start a small business or develop an existing business upon graduation. By the end of the program students should be able to develop a comprehensive business plan, which includes a well constructed financial and marketing component

Upon completion of the program, the student should be able to:

  • Demonstrate effective sales and negotiation skills.
  • Develop an understanding of innovative product/service development.
  • Gain an understanding of the importance of social responsibility, values and ethics in today's business world.
  • Understand the importance of federal law, regulations, meeting compliance and its impact on small businesses.
  • Gain a working knowledge of how to overcome economical constraints.
  • Demonstrate a basic working knowledge of human resource functions and its impact on small businesses.
  • Retrieve and evaluate the necessary documents (i.e. licenses) to start a business.
  • Perform an internal and external SWOT analysis of business ownership.
  • Evaluate the various forms of business ownership: sole proprietorship, partnership, and corporation.
  • Examine various ways to obtain capital and financing for a business.
  • Develop a comprehensive business plan.
  • Think critically at a conceptual level and by using mathematical analysis as well as the scientific method; write and speak effectively; use basic computer applications; and understand human behavior in the context of the greater society in a culturally diverse world.
